Disruption
because chaos breeds creativity
I don’t mind a little disruption. It can be beautiful, like shaking a snow globe. The tranquility that comes from watching molecules scatter and bounce off one another can be mesmerizing. Like watching smoke curls from the ember of incense take ambiguous yet distinct forms, or clouds traversing the sky as creatures and faces. It’s chaotic, and yet from the dark womb of chaos new creation is born.
When I’m called a disruptor I smile coyly. Behind a lifetime of fawning and masking lays a mischievous, sassy one that isn’t afraid of other peoples discomfort, in fact, she finds it curious, if not a little exciting.
I don’t mind a little disruption. It can create foundational cracks that feel unstable, and yet, what ever really is stable? Perhaps that’s the illusion that’s been fooling us all along.
When my people are called disruptors I glow with pride. The movers and shakers weren’t and aren’t afraid to say the thing. To name the injustices. To fight for something different, unknown, new.
I don’t mind a little disruption. Sometimes we slowly chip away at a problem, being mindful of the process and putting value on not rocking the boat. And sometimes, the process is the problem and the only way to find out is to capsize the fucking boat.
And sometimes it turns out you were a monkey out at sea who thought it was a fish because you had never known a tree.
Disruption is interference [not violence]. It’s breaking up with a toxic culture, it’s ending a relationship that feels safe yet unfulfilling, it’s finding out who you are behind the who you think you’re supposed to be. Disruption is interrupting the process of neurons firing along their tried and true path to try a different way.
Disruption is Evolution. It’s when everything we thought we knew reveals it’s nuanced ways and the only truth we can really know is that nothing, nothing, stays the same…
Evolution = Progress // Expansion // Growth // Development // Emergence // Improvement // Advancement // Maturation // Refinement // Enhancement…
